Mexico City Construction Supervisor Demands "Urgent and Immediate" Renovation of Metro Line 9
After the deadly collapse of Metro Line 12 in 2021, an internal report from Mexico City's construction
safety agency revealed a critical risk on Metro Line 9, with officials demanding urgent repairs to
prevent a potential catastrophe. The Institute for the Safety of Constructions warned in April 2022
that the elevated section of Line 9 near the Pantitlán terminal was dangerously deformed and sinking.
Initially, the authorities in charge of operating the Metro assured that there was no risk, but after
several reports, they finally announced the closure and repair of Line 9 in December 2023. It is
estimated that daily around 4.6 million people uses the Mexico City Metro.
